About Classes

Beginner’s Adult Class
This is an 8-week course for adults. You’ll work with other beginners and learn the fundamentals of Aikido that will prepare you to then move into any of the other regular open classes.

General Adult Classes
This is the regular adult class. Anyone can attend who has already gotten the basics in a beginner course or is transferring from another dojo. Both open hand and weapons are used in class.

Weapons Class
Focus on weapons: bokken, jo, and tanto. If you don’t have your own training weapons feel free to ask which dojo weapons may be borrowed. Class is open to all interested students. However, those who haven’t completed the Introductory Course should check with the instructor before showing up.

Youth Class
As is our tradition, we will adjust each class to the students present, taking into account age, skill, and experience. All are welcome. New students will start with the basic techniques of the entry-level (6th kyu) and will advance as far as their efforts take them.

Special Monthly Friday Class
Usually the last Friday of each month, everyone in the dojo from beginners to senior students are invited to attend class and then afterward dine together. It’s a great opportunity to bond and get to know others. Contact the dojo to find out when the next special Friday class will be.

Sunday Test Prep/Open Class
Sunday classes are for test preparation and for students who want to work on specific techniques. It is an opportunity to ask questions and request to work on something specific. Sunday class only takes place when there are enough students wanting to come that day. Email or call to check in that the Sunday class is taking place that week.

Monthly Dues

Nashville Aikikai is a non-profit organization. Our instructors, office managers, etc., donate their time, effort, and skills for the benefit of the dojo and students. All dues go towards the operation, maintenance, and beautification of the dojo.

Dues are paid on the first day of the month or at the beginning of a new class. Adult dojo members will receive a monthly PayPal dues invoice. We also accept cash or checks, but not credit cards.
