Commemorating Dr. King’s Legacy

Many Aikidoka feel a strong connection between the philosophical underpinnings of Aikido, which emphasizes the peaceful resolution of conflict, the promotion of harmony and love among all people, and the protection of both the human and natural world, and the teachings of Dr. King. We add our voices in celebrating his life and legacy. His words, as well as those of O’Sensei, take on a new relevance and urgency in the context of today’s America.

“Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.”

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

“True victory does not come from defeating an enemy, true victory comes from giving love and changing an enemy’s heart.”

Morihei Ueshiba (O’Sensei)
