Yesterday was the first day of the virtual ASU Winter Intensive, and what a wonderful event. There are more than 300 people registered from around the world, including Europe, Asia, and North and South America. It was great to see Saotome Sensei and have a chance to wish him a Happy New Year. There have already been great sessions with Messisco Sensei, Weber Sensei, Gleason Sensei, and the Penguin Shihan. The social hour after the various sessions allowed attendees to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. The theme of this year’s Winter Intensive is “Iki musubi” – “living connection.” The organizers are to be congratulated on creating a virtual event that fosters an ongoing connection among aikidoka of all affiliations and promotes the future of the art we all love.
