East Nash Dash and Tom Wang Sensei Visits the Dojo (and other news)

Nashville Aikikai will be a sponsor of the East Nashville Dash, which will take place on November 1, 2014 from 9 AM until 11 AM.  The route runs in front of the dojo.  We will putting out a table in front of the dojo with water for the runners.  We will have a magnet with our logo/info and coupons for free classes in the goodie bag that each runner will receive.  We would like to have some people in class, training as the runners go by as well.  Even if you don’t normally come to Saturday AM class, please consider coming to support this event.  For more information, please see their website at

It was great to see Wang Sensei.  For those of you who do not know him, he is the nage on the old t-shirts that feature jo-dori and was a member of our dojo for many years before moving to Madison, WI.  We miss him and always enjoy his visits.

The shoe collection for Soles4Souls is over, but we are still collecting donations for the Shade Tree Clinic.  There is a box for donations in the dojo, or they can be given to Tom or Mary Sensei or Marta.  If you write a check, please make it payable to Nashville Aikikai, as we will make a single donation from the dojo.  Mary Sensei is posting a running total of our donations to date on the bulletin board.

MiniSeminar with Tom and Mary McIntire Sensei and Mary Sensei’s Update on the holiday charity drive

Tom and Mary McIntire Sensei will be teaching a one day seminar on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Nashville Aikikai.  Please see the Seminars Page for more details.

Mary Sensei has updated our holiday charity drive.  In addition to collecting money for the Shade Tree Clinic, we will also be collecting for Soles4Souls, a charity that fights poverty by providing shoes and clothing to those in need, both in the US and abroad.  For more information, check out their website at

Please help us raise money for the Shade Tree Clinic.

Shade Tree logo

Again this year, our holiday charitable event will be to raise money for the Shade Tree Clinic.  The Shade Tree Clinic is a free medical clinic run by Vanderbilt Medical Students, which serves many of our fellow Nashville residents of limited financial means.  For more information about the services the clinic provides, please check out their website at  You can give your donation to Mary Sensei, Marta, or leave a check in the mailbox.  Please make checks out to Nashville Aikikai and indicate “Shade Tree Clinic” on the memo line.  Last year we raised $498.  Let’s exceed that goal this year!

The RW is a little brain-dead.  A very belated and hearty congratulations to J. Nord of Aikido of North Alabama for promotion to Shodan and Mark Clark of Cookeville Aikido for promotion to Nidan at our recent seminar with Tres Hofmeister Shihan.  Both had excellent tests.
