Beginners’ classes every Monday and Wednesday

Nashville Aikikai will now hold classes for beginners every Monday and Wednesday at 6:30 PM. Classes will run until 8:00 PM. Although everyone is welcome to attend, the material will be oriented toward fundamental Aikido skills and basic technique. Those wishing to start training should come early on Monday or Wednesday and speak with an instructor. Anyone is welcome to watch a class.

Saotome Sensei seminar at Nashville Aikikai in March 2012

Saotome Sensei will be at Nashville Aikikai March 16th through March 18th. Please view the full details for the seminar on the Seminars page. Registration for the seminar must be received by March 9th. Cost of the seminar is $150 and keiko will be Friday at 6:30, Saturday at 10:30 & 3:30, and Sunday at 10:30. There will be a Tennessee bar-b-que dinner on Saturday at Calhoun’s (separate confirmation/registration required). We look forward to seeing you there!

January Kyu Testing

Kyu testing in January will be on Friday the 13th. Please come support your fellow aikidoka and take ukemi as well. We will start with a short, formal class at 6:30pm with the tests following. After the tests, we will go out to dinner somewhere nearby; friends and family are welcome to join.

There will be a formal evening class on Friday, December 9th with testing to follow. Class starts at 6:30PM and we will go to dinner after the tests are completed. Those interested in learning more about Nashville Aikikai and Aikido are encouraged to observe class as well as the tests. Hope to see you there!

Do you have anything that you no longer use that needs a good home? Have an old Labor day gift aunt Martha gave you that you never ended up using? Good news! The dojo will be hosting a yard sale on November 19th starting at 7:30am! For those in need of directions to the dojo, please visit our Location page for a map and directions.

All proceeds will go towards the operation and beautification of the dojo itself. Donations can be brought to the dojo during the week of November 14-18 (special arrangements can be made if you need to deliver it earlier than that).

We will sort and price the items together on Friday night, November 18 and then have dinner. The yard sale will start at 7:30am on Saturday, November 19 and go on through the afternoon. We will need volunteers for both Friday and Saturday, so please show up and help out. You may even find some good deals for great things that you never knew you needed! Home to see you there!

Fatherland & 17th block party!

Between 5pm and 7pm on Saturday, September 24, there will be a block party with a live band and refreshments at 17th & Fatherland in East Nashville. It is free to all to attend and Nashville Aikikai will be open for folks to stop by and see what we are about.

The other businesses and organizations around 17th and Fatherland will be a part of the block party and it is a good chance to see how your friendly Far East Nashville neighborhood is growing. Hope to see you there!
